The European Union (EU) has decided to approve aid of 400 million euros to Türkiye following the Kahramanmaras earthquakes, reports the Anadolu news agency.
The European Council, composed of representatives of EU Member States, approved the disaster aid granted by the European Commission to Türkiye, Italy and Romania, for a total amount of 454.8 millions of euros.
Part of this aid, i.e. 400 million euros, is intended for Türkiye in response to the earthquakes that occurred in February in Kahramanmaras. Of this aid, 33.9 million euros will be sent to Romania, affected by drought, in 2022, and 20.9 million euros to Italy, ravaged by floods, in September 2022.
The aid will come from the part of the EU budget allocated to solidarity and emergency aid.
The financial assistance will be paid after final approval by the European Parliament and the European Council.
