EU Probes X (Formerly Twitter) for Disinformation

The European Commissioner for the Internal Market Thierry Breton opened an investigation on October 12 against X (formerly Twitter) for the alleged dissemination of “false information”, “violent and terrorist content” or “hate speech”. This request takes the form of a document of around forty pages with specific questions. A first series concerns clarifications to be made on the publication of illegal content and false information, in the context of the Israel-Hamas conflict. Twitter will have until October 18 to respond.

In response to the European Commissioner’s missive, X CEO Linda Yaccarino indicated that the social network had deleted hundreds of accounts affiliated with Hamas.
