On the occasion of the 6th edition of the Paris Peace Forum, Ms. Catherine Colonna, Minister of Europe and Foreign Affairs, will chair this Friday, November 10 with Mr. Bruno Le Maire, Minister of the Economy and Finance and Industrial and Digital Sovereignty, a ministerial meeting around the “Paris Pact for people and the planet” (4P), launched in June by the President of the Republic to promote a shock of public and private financing which makes it possible to fight both against poverty, climate change and the loss of biodiversity. This meeting will provide an update on progress since the June Summit for a New Financial Deal and open perspectives on upcoming deadlines, notably COP28 on the climate.
As part of the implementation of the Paris Pact for people and the planet, Ms. Chrysoula Zacharopoulou, Secretary of State to the Minister for Europe and Foreign Affairs, responsible for development, Francophonie and Partnerships international partners, will also participate in a panel moderated by Ms. Laurence Tubiana, President of the European Climate Foundation, dedicated to innovative financing avenues in favor of the climate, in order to advance the discussion and international mobilization to launch an initiative on the subject on the occasion of COP28.
The Minister will also open the 3rd Summit for Information and Democracy alongside Ms. Maria Ressa, Nobel Peace Prize laureate, and Mr. Christophe Deloire, President of the Forum on Information and Democracy. This event, which brings together the actors of the Partnership for Information and Democracy, launched in 2019 and signed by 51 States to date, will illustrate the dynamics of the Partnership. The integrity of information on digital platforms is absolutely necessary and will be at the heart of the discussions. The Minister will recall on this occasion France’s commitment to the exercise of freedom of opinion and expression and access to reliable and independent information.
At the invitation of the International Fund for Public Interest Media (IFPIM), supported by France to the tune of 13 million euros over 3 years, Ms. Chrysoula Zacharopoulou will participate in a panel on the integrity of information, during which she will notably highlight France’s actions within the framework of the 2023-2027 “Media and development” roadmap. In anticipation of COP28, during which a “health and climate” thematic day will be organized, the Secretary of State will also participate in a round table on the link between the fight against climate change and action in global health.
