Schengen area not finished, but it has a ‘problem’, says Croatian PM

Croatian Prime Minister Andrej Plenkovic said on Thursday that the temporary reintroduction of border controls between Slovenia and Croatia should be an exception, recognizing that the Schengen area has a problem.

“Schengen is not finished, but it has a problem. The introduction of border controls is not a new thing, it is due to migration trends and assessments of growing security threats from terrorism,” he said. he said during a press conference.

However, the temporary reintroduction of border controls should be an exception, “a measure of last extremity” which should be subject to strict conditions, particularly in terms of scope and duration, he stressed.

On Thursday, Slovenia announced that it would reinstate controls on its border with Croatia on October 21 for the next ten days.
