The new head of British diplomacy in Germany for his first visit

The new Foreign Minister of the United Kingdom, David Lammy, traveled to Germany on Saturday July 6 for his first foreign visit, the day after Labor’s landslide victory in the legislative elections.

Calling for a “reset” in relations with Britain’s allies, Mr Lammy met his German counterpart Annalena Baerbock, who stressed the UK was “an indispensable part of Europe”.

Berlin “is working with the new British government to see how the United Kingdom could move closer to the European Union,” the German Foreign Ministry wrote on X.

For his part, Mr. Lammy, who replaced the Conservative David Cameron at the head of Britain’s diplomacy, also published photos of his interview with Ms. Baerbock.

The ministers notably discussed the geopolitical situation in the Middle East and climate change.
