Vatican: Pope reiterates call for “immediate ceasefire” in Gaza

Pope Francis on Wednesday reiterated his call for an immediate ceasefire – in the Gaza Strip, so that humanitarian aid can reach the civilian population. He prayed for the Seven aid workers killed on Tuesday – by an Israeli strike.

“Unfortunately, we continue to receive sad news from the Middle East. I once again renew my firm demand for an immediate ceasefire in the Gaza Strip. I express my deep regret for the volunteers killed while involved in the distribution of humanitarian aid in Gaza. I pray for them and for their families, I renew my appeal so that the exhausted and suffering civilian population can have access to humanitarian aid and that the hostages are immediately released. » Says Pope Francis.

In a speech released Tuesday evening, Israel Defense Forces Commander Herzi Halevi said there was “no intention to harm” WCK volunteers in the attack that killed seven people in Gaza. The head of European diplomacy Josep Borrell condemned the incident and called for “an investigation”.
