Activision Games Coming to Xbox Game Pass: Patience Required

As Gamescom 2023 is in full swing this week, a certain Phil Spencer was interviewed by IGN on Xbox’s strategy for the next few years, and especially after the Activision-Blizzard takeover.

During his interview, the boss of Xbox discussed several topics, and was also asked about the arrival of Activision games in the Xbox Game Pass.

While many gamers might think the publisher’s games will be on the service the minute the deal closes, Phil Spencer explains that won’t be the case:

I want people to know that there is work to be done to bring the games to Game Pass, so for people who think “the deal is going to be done, then everything will be available on Game Pass is not true, and this has not been the case in other acquisitions we have made.

The Xbox boss insists there’s going to be work for Teams to do, and it’s going to take time to add the games to the service.

As a reminder, the new deadline for the takeover of Activision-Blizzard is set for October 18, 2023. Recently, we learned that the British CMA was opening a new investigation, and that the European Union was also considering reassessing the takeover following recent agreements with Ubisoft on cloud gaming.

There is therefore still a long way to go before we see the first Activision games integrate the Xbox Game Pass and we will certainly have the opportunity to talk about it again in the weeks to come.
