Assimi Goïta Excited: World’s Top Nuclear Power Offers Mali Aid

The world’s leading nuclear power has decided to help Mali build a nuclear power plant.

Visiting Russia, the Minister of Foreign Affairs and head of diplomacy of Mali, Abdoulaye Diop met his Russian counterpart.

Cooperation projects were at the center of exchanges between the two personalities.

During these discussions, it was noted that Russia should help Mali build a nuclear power plant in Bamako.

“It is decided to move towards the construction of nuclear power plants to strengthen the country’s energy mix.

But in any case, in the short or medium term, there is talk of setting up two solar power plants to be able to meet the needs of the country,” he said.

Already at the end of 2023, the Russian company Rosatom, specializing in nuclear energy, announced that the two countries had signed a memorandum of understanding on cooperation in the field of the use of nuclear energy for peaceful purposes.

“It is true that today, our ambition is to raise economic and commercial cooperation to the level of the good quality of political relations, but also to the level of cooperation on the military and security level,” declared Abdoulaye Diop.

Thus, he hopes that relations between his country and Russia will evolve even further and remain a win-win cooperation.

Since the arrival of Colonel Assimi Goïta to power, Mali and Russia have forged very strong ties.

Moscow provides support to Bamako in the fight against terrorism through donations of military equipment.

Likewise, several Russian instructors are in Bamako to help the Malian army.
