The Deputy Ambassador of the Czech Republic, Denk Matej, on a visit to Côte d’Ivoire, met with representatives of the Ivorian media on Thursday, June 6, 2024 in Abidjan-Plateau.
This meeting organized by the honorary consulate of this European country in Côte d’Ivoire is part of an approach to expand cooperation between the two countries, in order to begin sharing expertise in several areas, according to Denk Matej.
In front of journalists, the Deputy Ambassador discussed possible areas of collaboration in the coming days, particularly in terms of security, agri-food, maritime issues or global warming.
Denk Matej added that the Czech Republic and Côte d’Ivoire share certain ideologies, which justifies this approach, with a view to sharing different expertise in several areas.
”There is a strong rapprochement between our two countries. This rapprochement began since the arrival of our Prime Minister Head of Government (Editor’s note: Petr Fiala) here in Abidjan last year. This meeting with your Vice-President (Editor’s note: Tiemoko Meyliet Koné) created a double opportunity to really deepen the relationship and that is why we are here today. Because we have already started to do a lot of things, particularly in the field of health,” explained the diplomat.
“The Czech Republic is a modern country in Central Europe, a member of the European Union and NATO, but which also has a very lively economy. It is a country of opportunities for economic relations, a country that is well industrialized,” he reassured.
In addition to these aspects, he announced the start of a program initiated by the Czech Republic, mainly taking into account several young journalists from Africa. This program, which will take place in October, concerns French-speaking and English-speaking countries.
He also announced the imminent opening of an Embassy of the Czech Republic in Côte d’Ivoire to concretely begin the various development discussions for the benefit of both countries.
