Diplomatic Triumph: Morocco’s Sahara Recognition

Rabat – Israel’s recognition of the Moroccan status of the Sahara is “a great achievement of the avant-garde and firm diplomacy” carried out under the leadership of HM King Mohammed VI, underlined, on Tuesday, the secretary general of the Party for Progress and Socialism (PPS), Mohamed Nabil Benabdallah.

“This achievement is undoubtedly part of the great achievements accumulated by Morocco with regard to the recognition of the Moroccanness of the Sahara by a large number of countries which weigh on the world stage in recent years, which will strongly support the legitimate position of our country on the international level to consolidate its sovereignty and its territorial integrity”, affirmed Mr. Benabdallah in a reaction to the MAP.

The secretary general of the PPS expressed the wish that “this important step could contribute to the continuation of the efforts of the Kingdom in its quest for the establishment of peace in the Middle East region”.

A statement from the Royal Cabinet announced on Monday that His Majesty King Mohammed VI received a letter from the Prime Minister of the State of Israel, Benyamin Netanyahu, in which he brought to the Sovereign’s Very High Attention the decision to his country to recognize Morocco’s sovereignty over its Sahara.

In this regard, the Israeli Prime Minister indicated that this position of his country will be “reflected in all relevant acts and documents of the Israeli Government”. He further stressed that said decision will be “transmitted to the United Nations, regional and international organizations of which Israel is a member, as well as to all countries with which Israel maintains diplomatic relations.”

In his letter to the Sovereign, the Israeli Prime Minister informed that Israel is examining positively “the opening of a Consulate in the city of Dakhla”, as part of the implementation of this State decision.
