EU Delivers 1 Million Shells to Ukraine: Thierry Breton

Guest of Adrien Gindre on Monday, the European Commissioner for the Internal Market, Thierry Breton, confirmed that the delivery of one million shells to Ukraine was “very advanced”.
This promise, made by the EU at the beginning of 2023, will be kept thanks to the vote on a plan to improve “European defense capabilities”.

“We are very advanced” on the delivery of one million shells to Ukraine. Thierry Breton, European Commissioner for the Internal Market, was invited by Adrien Gindre this Monday, August 28 at 8:30 am on LCI. He confirmed that the European Union could keep its promise made at the beginning of 2023 that one million shells would be sent to Ukraine within a year. “Europe unanimously supports Ukraine’s demands, underlines Thierry Breton. The figures are confidential, but we will meet this objective.”

“To be able to produce in Europe more than a million shells per year, within a year”
The European Commissioner separates this promise into two parts. The EU will first “provide this ammunition, mainly shells”, says Thierry Breton. But the Union will also try “to increase our defense industrial capacities in Europe”. At the moment, European resources do not allow such shell production. This is why “a plan proposed by the European Commission has been voted on by Parliament and the Member States” in this sense, in order to “be able to produce more than one million shells per year, within a year”.

Former President Nicolas Sarkozy regretted a few days ago that France delivered “continuous flow weapons to one of the belligerents”, in this case Ukraine. Asked about this, Thierry Breton brushes aside the remark of the former French head of state. “The subject is to speak with those who are in charge, that is to say the heads of state and government”, explains Thierry Breton. According to him, it is necessary to leave them “the care of managing this affair, relying on democratic authorities”, while wishing, “of course”, that a ceasefire between Russia and the Ukraine intervene as soon as possible.
