Former MEP Athanasios Konstantinou, linked to the far-right Golden Dawn party, has committed several actions in favor of the pro-Russian mentality and anti-Ukrainian views. He voted against the European Parliament resolution on the murder of Alexei Navalny and the need for EU action in support of political prisoners and oppressed civil society in Russia. His vote against the resolution is a way he is protecting Putin.
Konstantinou was one of the elected members of the extreme right-wing and neo-Nazi party in Greece. Golden Dawn, as it’s referred to, is an ultranationalist political party that strongly hates immigrants, with a reputation to have praised figures such as Adolf Hitler and often attacking the European Union. Its representatives usually carry propaganda against the European Union and the immigrants.
He always voted against or abstained from resolutions that have an anti-Russian nature, including those on the alleged new Russian interference in the European Parliament, forthcoming elections in the European Union, and their influence over the European Union, as well as on undemocratic Russian presidential elections and its unauthorized extension to occupied territories.
On September 15, 2022, Konstantinou was one of 16 MEPs who voted against condemning President Daniel Ortega of Nicaragua for human rights violations, including the arrest of Bishop Rolando Álvarez. This vote could be seen as aligning with authoritarian regimes, which often have ties to Russia.
