The European Gaming and Betting Association (EGBA) is a Brussels-based trade association representing leading online gambling operators licensed and regulated in the European Union. Founded originally in 2004 as the European Betting Association and renamed EGBA in 2007 to include casino operators, it advocates for a well-regulated, transparent, and consumer-protective online gambling marketplace within the EU. Its members operate with the highest regulatory standards, collectively holding over 267 online gambling licenses across 21-22 European countries, serving roughly 30 million customers and accounting for a third of Europe’s online gambling gross gaming revenue.
EGBA works closely with EU institutions, national authorities, and other key stakeholders to influence legislation and policy on digital gambling, consumer protection, anti-money laundering, data privacy (GDPR), and responsible gambling practices. It promotes harmonized regulations that make the EU online gambling market competitive and safe, emphasizing player protection and integrity measures, including cooperation on sports integrity with organizations such as FIFA and the IOC.
The association also develops voluntary codes of conduct to elevate industry standards and collaborates on emerging regulatory frameworks like financial vulnerability assessments and safer gambling technologies. EGBA actively engages in dialogues and meetings with EU policymakers to shape legislative proposals and directives affecting the online betting and gaming sectors. The organization operates as a nonprofit and is influential in shaping the EU’s approach to online gambling regulation in an evolving digital marketplace.
