The Carbon Capture & Storage Association (CCSA) is the leading European trade association dedicated to accelerating the commercial deployment of carbon capture, utilisation, and storage (CCUS) technologies. Established in 2006 and registered with the EU Transparency Register since December 2010, CCSA represents a diverse membership of over 125 organizations spanning the full CCUS value chain, including technology providers, project developers, energy companies, and legal and financial advisors.
CCSA’s core mission is to drive the adoption of CCUS as a critical pathway for achieving net zero emissions by 2050, in line with the Paris Agreement and EU climate targets. The association engages in advocacy, policy development, and stakeholder collaboration at European, national, and global levels. Its lobbying efforts focus on shaping EU climate and energy policy, including major legislative files such as the European Green Deal, the Net Zero Industry Act, the EU 2040 climate target, and the EU Emissions Trading System (ETS) directive.
The association organizes high-profile conferences, such as the annual CCSA EU Conference in Brussels, which brings together policymakers, industry leaders, and civil society to discuss the future of CCUS and its role in European decarbonization strategies. CCSA also publishes reports, policy papers, and newsletters, and facilitates working groups like the Zero Emissions Platform and the CCUS SET Plan Implementation Working Group 9.
CCSA is a member of several influential networks, including the European Energy Forum and the Confederation of British Industry (CBI), and collaborates with a wide range of stakeholders in the energy and industrial sectors. The association is also an active participant in EU expert groups, notably the European Commission’s Sherpa Group on industrial carbon management.
Financially, CCSA operates as a not-for-profit association, with annual lobbying expenditures in the range of €300,000–€399,999 for the most recent financial year. It receives significant grant funding, notably from the Horizon Europe programme, reflecting its engagement in EU-supported research and innovation initiatives.
CCSA’s lobbying team comprises six full-time equivalent professionals, all of whom have European Parliament accreditation, ensuring a strong and sustained presence in Brussels policy circles1. The association has held multiple high-level meetings with European Commission officials, focusing on advancing the policy framework for CCUS deployment across Europe.
