HelpAge International

HelpAge International is a leading global network and advocacy organization committed to promoting and protecting the rights of older people worldwide. Accredited with the EU Transparency Register since August 18, 2022, HelpAge International serves as the secretariat for a broad coalition of organizations dedicated to ensuring that older women and men, particularly in low- and middle-income countries, can lead dignified, healthy, and secure lives1. The organization’s European advocacy is focused on aligning EU policies and funding instruments—especially those related to external action—with the rights and dignity of older people.

HelpAge International’s remit covers a wide range of issues affecting older populations, including inclusive humanitarian action, healthy ageing, income security, and fostering a society for all ages. The organization actively engages with EU legislative proposals and policy instruments that impact these focus areas, such as the GAPIII, the Equality Marker, and the new Global Health Policy1. HelpAge’s advocacy is rooted in evidence-based policy work, regular communication campaigns (notably around the International Day of Older Persons), and the publication of reports and briefings that highlight the intersection of ageing with EU priorities such as non-communicable diseases, gender equality, and development policy.

HelpAge International also leads the global “Age Demands Action” campaign, mobilizing both older and younger generations to recognize the contributions of older people and to advocate for their inclusion in development and humanitarian policies. The organization’s network includes affiliates and partners across Europe and globally, working collaboratively to influence EU institutions, national governments, and international bodies to adopt age-friendly and inclusive approaches in their policies and programs.

HelpAge International’s work is characterized by its collaborative approach, engaging with civil society, academia, governments, and other stakeholders to drive legislative and policy changes that benefit older people. The organization has played a pivotal role in the development and implementation of senior citizens’ welfare legislation in countries like Pakistan and has been instrumental in shaping EU and international discourse on ageing3. Through its advocacy, networking, and evidence-based campaigns, HelpAge International continues to champion the rights and well-being of older people at the EU level and beyond.
