The Mineral Products Association Northern Ireland (MPANI) is the leading trade association representing the quarrying and mineral products industry in Northern Ireland. Formerly known as the Quarry Products Association Northern Ireland (QPANI), MPANI is affiliated with the wider Mineral Products Association (MPA), which is the sectoral voice for mineral products across the UK. MPANI represents members’ interests on policy, planning, and technical matters, engaging with government departments, local authorities, and professional trade bodies at European, national, and local levels. Its members produce over 90% of the aggregates extracted in Northern Ireland, including sand, gravel, crushed rock, and other raw materials essential for construction and industrial uses.
MPANI’s industry coverage includes production of aggregates (about 95%), asphalt and bituminous materials, ready-mixed concrete, and concrete products. The association seeks to promote sustainable development, share best practices, and advocate for policies that support the long-term viability and social responsibility of the mineral products sector. MPANI plays an active role in economic impact assessments, health and safety standards, and environmental reporting relating to the industry. It maintains strong connections with government infrastructure departments, industry professionals, and other trade associations.
In the EU context, MPANI is registered in the EU Transparency Register, which records organizations engaging in lobbying to influence EU policy and law-making processes. The registration ensures transparency regarding MPANI’s lobbying objectives, expenditures, and interactions with EU institutions. Through its affiliation with the wider MPA, MPANI contributes expertise and advocacy at both the UK and EU levels to shape relevant regulatory frameworks and industry standards. MPANI’s governance includes an Executive Committee composed of senior industry figures from member companies operating in Northern Ireland.
