The Sustainable Leather Foundation is a global, not-for-profit community interest company established in 2020, dedicated to enabling collective improvement, education, and endorsement of sustainable practices across the leather industry worldwide. The Foundation operates with an industry-led and consumer-focused approach, offering certification programs, education, and best practices designed to enhance transparency and sustainable performance in leather manufacturing and supply chains. Central to its mission is the SLF Transparency Dashboard, an integrated digital platform linked to certification standards that assess leather manufacturers and associated facilities against Environmental, Social, and Governance (ESG) criteria. This platform provides consumers with accessible sustainability performance information, while offering detailed, transparent data to stakeholders within the value chain. By aligning existing certifications and audits through equivalency recognition, the SLF reduces duplication of effort for manufacturers and supports regulatory compliance with EU legislative frameworks such as the European Union Deforestation-Free Regulation (EUDR), Corporate Sustainability Reporting Directive (CSRD), and Corporate Sustainability Due Diligence Directive (CSDDD). The Foundation actively promotes collaboration among brands, retailers, leather producers, traders, product manufacturers, and other related stakeholders to drive improved outcomes for people, planet, and profit. Its efforts encompass training, certification, communication, and networking within the leather sector, underpinning a transparent, sustainable leather industry that addresses environmental impact, social responsibility, and governance standards comprehensively.
