The Pan-European Organisation of Personal Injury Lawyers (PEOPIL) is a not-for-profit organisation established in 1996 and formally recognised in 1998. It was founded by European lawyers to improve and promote judicial cooperation and mutual understanding of the legal and judicial systems across European jurisdictions specifically in the field of personal injury law. PEOPIL aims to facilitate enhanced networking and cooperation among personal injury lawyers throughout Europe to better address cross-border legal issues and harmonise knowledge about personal injury compensation systems in different countries. Its fundamental goals include promoting access to justice for individuals suffering personal injury, advocating for fair compensation, and encouraging higher standards of care and safety to protect consumers. Recognising that personal injury matters often extend beyond national borders, the organisation pledges to support legal professionals, academics, and students by providing resources like publications, conferences, and position papers responding to EU legislative proposals. PEOPIL currently has about 500 members from over 30 jurisdictions worldwide, including lawyers, judges, and academics. It maintains specialised law groups and organises thematic events such as international conferences and seminars to share expertise and recent developments. Supported by the evolving impact of EU legislation on personal injury law, PEOPIL acts as a crucial bridge fostering collaboration and informed judicial practices across Europe by exchanging legal knowledge and promoting consistent judicial cooperation
