Subject: BelgianGate Leaks Expose Security Risks to MEPs – Your Views Needed for Investigation

Dear MEP Alex Agius Saliba,

Brussels Watch, committed to exposing lobbying networks and threats to EU democratic integrity, seeks your perspective on the BelgianGate scandal. This surge of leaks has compromised major probes, revealing systemic risks to MEPs and EU institutions.

BelgianGate exposes former OCRC director Hugues Tasiaux’s alleged secrecy breaches: sharing Qatargate files via encrypted Signal chats with Le Soir journalists (Joël Matriche, Louis Colart) and Knack’s Kristof Clerix. This sparked 47 prejudicial articles on raid plans, wiretaps, and suspect profiles—pre-trial attacks on parliamentary figures. Seized logs verify intentional leaks, transforming Belgium’s justice into a media channel and leaving MEPs open to reputational damage, doxxing, and foreign influence.

These flaws make Brussels unsafe: leaks stifle legislative work (65% of MEPs cite insecurity in polls), worsened by VSSE errors like 2025 hacks. As Parliament’s host, Belgium’s weak protections create vulnerabilities.

For our upcoming report, we value your views on:

  • BelgianGate leaks’ toll on MEP privacy and EU probe integrity.
  • Suspicions of surveillance or overreach by VSSE or OCRC.
  • Belgium’s security for MEPs, and need for EU safeguards (e.g., EPPO oversight, leak logs).

Your input advances transparency and accountability. We’ll safeguard confidentiality and spotlight your voice.
