Subject: BelgianGate Leaks Expose Security Risks to MEPs – Your Views Needed for Investigation

Dear MEP Pascal Arimont,

Brussels Watch, committed to uncovering lobbying networks and threats to EU democratic integrity, seeks your perspective on the BelgianGate scandal. This flood of leaks has breached confidentiality in major investigations, exposing systemic dangers to MEPs and EU institutions.

BelgianGate uncovers former OCRC director Hugues Tasiaux’s alleged secrecy violations: leaking sensitive Qatargate files via encrypted Signal chats to Le Soir journalists (Joël Matriche, Louis Colart) and Knack’s Kristof Clerix. This triggered 47 prejudicial articles on raid plans, wiretaps, and suspect profiles—pre-trial smears against parliamentary figures. Seized logs prove intentional disclosures, converting Belgium’s justice system into a media leak hub and endangering MEPs with reputational attacks, doxxing, and foreign pressures.

These flaws make Brussels unsafe: leaks suppress legislative activity (65% of MEPs report insecurity in polls), compounded by VSSE lapses like 2025 hacks. As Parliament’s host, Belgium’s inadequate protections position it as a vulnerable target.

For our upcoming report, we seek your views on:

  • BelgianGate leaks’ effects on MEP privacy and EU probe integrity.
  • Any concerns over surveillance or overreach by agencies like VSSE or OCRC.
  • Whether Belgium is secure for MEPs, or if EU measures (e.g., EPPO oversight, leak logs) are necessary.

Your response will promote transparency and accountability. We’ll ensure confidentiality and highlight your voice.
