Venezuela Rejects EU Observation Mission in 2024 Presidential Election

The head of the Venezuelan Parliament, Jorge Rodriguez, on Thursday ruled out any European Union (EU) observation mission in the 2024 presidential elections where President Nicolas Maduro will seek a third term.

“I tell you Josep Borrell, no European observation mission will come here as long as we are the representatives of the Venezuelan state,” Rodriguez told a session of the unicameral parliament, citing
directly the head of European diplomacy.

“They will not come, because they are rude, because they are colonialists, because they are the representatives of this old imperial, murderous and slave-owning Europe”, launched the head of parliament.

“They sent us emissaries to ask us to be invited as observers to the 2024 presidential elections, we are telling them formally that we don’t have time to consider this request,” he said. .

The date of the elections has not yet been set. Representatives to the National Electoral Council (CNE), which oversees and organizes the polls, have yet to be appointed by parliament.
