During a meeting held by videoconference and chaired by the Ambassador Permanent Representative of the Kingdom to the AU and the UNECA, Mohamed Arrouchi, marked by the presentation of a presentation on the situation in South Sudan, the Moroccan delegation reaffirmed that the primacy of dialogue between all stakeholders in this country is the viable approach in pursuing a successful democratic transition to achieve lasting peace, security and stability in this country.
The Moroccan delegation recommended to the PSC to redouble efforts to mobilize resources and funds to support the implementation of the peace agreement in South Sudan with a view to achieving transparent and credible elections within the stipulated transitional deadlines. Aware of the vital importance of peace, security and stability, Morocco attaches particular interest to the establishment of constructive cooperation between stakeholders and relevant international organizations in order to ensure stability in this brother country.
“We express our confidence in the capacity of the South Sudanese authorities and forces to take measures likely to strengthen national cohesion and to embark on a lasting path for peace and stability,” reiterated the Moroccan delegation. The delegation also welcomed the efforts made by South Sudan under the Revitalized Agreement on the Resolution of the Conflict in that Country and the Protracted Transition Roadmap, particularly with regard to the ongoing preparations for the adoption of a permanent constitution and the organization, in December 2024, of elections which will mark the end of the transition.
While emphasizing the importance of putting the interest of South Sudan and its people above all consideration and resolving any dispute peacefully, it is paramount to ensure solidarity with the government and people of South Sudan in its legitimate aspirations to deepen and consolidate democracy and in its efforts to overcome the challenges facing this brother country, reaffirmed the Moroccan delegation.
