Australia’s top diplomat warns Israel will ‘lose support’ over Gaza

Australian Foreign Minister Penny Wong warned Israel on Tuesday that it would lose support “unless it changes course” in the besieged Palestinian enclave of Gaza.

“October 7 was a terrorist attack and the world was rightly very supportive of Israel at the time,” Wong told the Australian Financial Review business summit.

“I think the world is horrified by the current situation […] the loss of innocent civilian lives and the scale of the humanitarian crisis, and I will say that unless Israel changes course, it will continue to lose the support,” Wong said, according to video of the event.

Israel is accused of genocide before the International Court of Justice, which in an interim ruling issued in January ordered Tel Aviv to end genocidal acts and take steps to ensure humanitarian aid to civilians in Gaza, where the The death toll rose to more than 31,000.
