Borrell accuses Israel of ‘encouraging famine and using it as a weapon in Gaza’

The head of European diplomacy has long defended anti-Israeli positions and criticized the Jewish state on various subjects well before October 7

The head of diplomacy of the European Union, Josep Borrell, once again strongly criticized Israel’s policy and its management of the war on Monday. “Israel encourages famine and uses it as a weapon in the war in Gaza,” the Catalan politician said during a meeting in Brussels dedicated to sending humanitarian aid to Gaza,

“We are no longer on the verge of famine in Gaza, we are in a situation of famine which affects thousands of people,” Borrell insisted. The senior European official added that this situation “is not acceptable. Famine is used as a weapon of war. Israel encourages famine.”

Borrell has for years defended anti-Israeli positions and criticized the Jewish state on various subjects well before the massacres by the terrorist organization Hamas committed on October 7 in southern Israel. The head of diplomacy of the European Union maintained his positions after the start of the war, declaring in particular, in January of this year, that “Israel financed Hamas to weaken the Palestinian Authority”. He also called last month for an end to arms deliveries from third countries to Israel.
