Drone Attack Targets Moscow: Buildings Damaged, No Casualties

Russian authorities said they shot down several drones around Moscow in an attack that hit several buildings in the Russian capital.

This Tuesday at dawn, Moscow and its region were the target of a drone attack. If the damage caused by this assault is only “minor damage” on several buildings, the mayor of the Russian capital clarified that “no one has been seriously injured so far”. “All the city’s emergency services are on site,” he added on the Telegram social network.

Governor Andrei Vorobyov called on Moscow residents to “remain calm”, adding that “several drones were shot down” by Russian air defense as they approached the capital. “This morning, the Kiev regime carried out a terrorist attack with drones against sites in Moscow,” the Russian Defense Ministry said in a statement. “Eight drones were involved in the attack,” he said.

Traces of smoke in the sky were filmed and posted on social networks, other images show partially damaged buildings. The mayor of Moscow said that the authorities have evacuated the inhabitants of two residential buildings, assuring that they “will be able to return to their apartments as soon as the special services have finished their work”.

At Least One Person Killed in Kyiv

This attack on the Russian capital comes the day after a new “massive attack” by Russian drones on kyiv, which had caused the death of at least one person, according to the mayor of the city Vitali Klitschko. “One person died, an old lady was hospitalized, two victims were treated on the spot,” he said on social networks.

Since the start of the conflict in 2022, the Russian capital has very rarely been the target of attacks. On May 3, Russia claimed to have foiled a drone attack targeting the Kremlin in Moscow, accusing kyiv of wanting to assassinate Vladimir Putin. Denying any attack on his Russian counterpart, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky said: “We did not attack Putin. We leave it to the court. We are fighting on our territory, we are defending our villages and towns”. It was the first time an incursion blamed on Ukraine had occurred in the heart of Moscow.
