Israeli Foreign Minister maintains offensive against Iran at NATO summit

Israeli Foreign Minister Israel Katz today maintained his diplomatic offensive against Iran at the NATO summit in Washington, in meetings with US Treasury Secretary Janet Yellen, Senator Lindsey Graham and her Dutch counterpart Caspar Veldkamp.
During his meeting with Yellen, Katz stressed “Now is the time to impose tough sanctions on Iran, under the leadership of the United States and in cooperation with European countries, to put an end to its nuclear activities and ballistic weapons and its support for terrorist organizations”, wrote the minister on the social network X.

Veldkamp, for his part, confirmed that the Netherlands would join the European Union’s initiative to declare the Iranian Revolutionary Guards a terrorist organization, the Israeli minister said today.

Katz met Tuesday with U.S. Secretary of State Antony Blinken and Defense Secretary Lloyd Austin, as well as German Chancellor Annalena Baerbock and Canadian Chancellor Mélanie Joly.

The main Israeli message at the summit, focused mainly on supporting Ukraine against the Russian invasion, is to demand “crippling sanctions” against Iran and for the Revolutionary Guards to be declared a terrorist organization, according to its desk.

After the Iranian attack on Israel with hundreds of drones and missiles last April, countries such as the United States and Canada, as well as the European Union, announced new sanctions against the Persian country.

However, Israeli authorities consider the measures insufficient and view the instability in the region as part of an Iranian plot to destroy the State of Israel.

This Tuesday, the 32 heads of state and government of NATO began their summit in Washington with a ceremony commemorating the 75th anniversary of the Alliance during which the host, American President Joe Biden, announced a strong strengthening of the air defense of Ukraine by the allies.
