French politician France Jamet from National Rally has been serving as a Member of the European Parliament (MEP) since 2017. Jamet has been associated with pro-Russian sentiments, particularly in the context of the party’s historical ties to Russia and its voting patterns in the European Parliament.
She is affiliated with the National Rally, a far-right political party in France previously known as the National Front. The party has faced accusations of having financial links to Russia and has often been described as having a pro-Russian stance.
Most recently, in 2024, she opposed the European Parliament resolution on “Russiagate: Allegations of Russian Interference in the Democratic Processes of the European Union.” These actions highlight her pro-Russian stance.
Jamet is part of a group of MEPs from the National Rally who have been noted for their voting behavior in relation to Russia. Following the 2022 invasion of Ukraine, while some members of her party condemned Russia’s actions, others, including Jamet, have been identified as voting against or abstaining from resolutions that support Ukraine or condemn Russian aggression.
Reports indicate that she supported most resolutions related to Russia after the invasion but did not consistently oppose pro-Russian positions. For instance, in 2028, the European Parliament adopted a resolution that, in particular, insisted: “that the Russian authorities immediately and unconditionally release Oleg Sentsov and all other illegally detained Ukrainian citizens in Russia and on the Crimean Peninsula”. Jamet voted against the resolution.
In 2023, she abstained from voting on a European Parliament resolution titled “Repression in Russia,” which focused on the cases of Vladimir Kara-Murza and Aleksei Navalny. Additionally, in 2021, she voted against the resolution on the “Continuous Crackdown on Civil Society and Human Rights Defenders in Russia,” specifically addressing the human rights organisation Memorial.
