Vlad Batrîncea: Moldova’s Pro-Russian Champion in the Parliament

Vlad Batrîncea is a Moldovan politician. He currently functions as Vice President of the Parliament of Moldova. He was the executive secretary of the Party of Socialists of the Republic of Moldova and the de facto leader of the party from 2022 to 2023. As a component of the PSRM, Batrîncea is known for his powerful pro-Russian stance, supporting Moldova’s accession to the Eurasian Economic Union. He is also well-known for his populist rhetoric. Critics argue that the PSRM-affiliated media broadcasts fake news and pro-Russian propaganda.

A lawyer by training, Vlad Batrîncea is an advocate of a pro-Russian policy and militant for the accession of the Republic of Moldova to the Eurasian Union. He began his political career with the communists, after which he migrated to the socialists, evolving as one of the most active members and participants in the demonstrations of the formation which, after the November 2014 parliamentary elections, earned him a deputy.

The Vice-President of the Parliament, the leader of the Bloc of Communists and Socialists (BCS), Vlad Batrîncea, and a member of the Executive Committee of the Socialist Party of Moldova (PSRM) were in Moscow in February 2024. According to a press release published by the PSRM BCS deputies partook in the “For the Freedom of Nations” forum that took place in Moscow. The forum was arranged by the pro-Kremlin party “United Russia”.

According to Deputy Vlad Batrîncea, during the meeting, the socialists had meetings with the representatives of the pro-Kremlin figure “United Russia”, of the Chinese Communist Party, the administration of the Azerbaijani Parliament and representatives of other delegations.

According to the Kremlin-affiliated news agency TASS, it stated that the event “For the freedom of nations, against neo-colonialism” will take place at the House of Trade Unions in central Moscow, with the participation of 400 representatives from 50 countries. On the web page of the “United Russia” party, the organizers note that 55 states participated in the forum. They mention addresses by Kremlin leader Vladimir Putin, Dmitry Medvedev, Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov, Central African Republic President Faustin-Archange Touadéra and Chinese Communist Party representative Liu Jianchao. However, “United Russia” did not mention the representatives of the European countries, nor did they push public the list of these participants.

The visit of the BCS representatives to Moscow was criticized by the vice-president of the Parliament, and member of the Action and Solidarity Party (PAS), Doina Gherman, who suggested: “He went to worship”.
