Beatrix von Storch is a German politician and lawyer. She has been the Deputy Leader of the Alternative for Germany AfD since July 2015. Storch has been serving as a member of the Bundestag since September 2017 and previously was a member of the European Parliament from Germany.
Beatrix von Storch, a senior member of the AfD party, stated in an interview that she was against Ukraine joining the EU.
“We’re not even able within the European Union as it is now to arrange ourselves and to get everything fixed. So we do not need someone else,”
she stated during the party’s conference in the western city of Essen.
After the Russian attack on Ukraine, Storch has been reluctant to make a public statement. Before the battle, von Storch was more detailed. In 2019, she stated:
“(…) Against #NATO with Putin. Germany is isolated thanks to #Merkel. Moral convictions lead to a dead end. Venture more realism.”
Moreover, in 2023, Beatrix von Storch told DW:
“If you want to stop a war, you have to negotiate, You can fight until everyone is dead and then say that it is quite peaceful here – because everyone is dead. We think it is better to start peace talks.”
Before von Storch became concerned with the AfD, she and her spouse ran many organisations fighting abortion and the right to sexual self-determination. Along with other right-wing, fundamentalist Christians, she is also behind the “Demo für Alle” (Demonstration for Everybody) rallies, which oppose abortion, freedom of sexual identity, and same-sex marriage. The Russian oligarch Konstantin Malofeyev plays a meaningful part in this context. He notices Russia as a bulwark against an alleged ethical decay in Europe.
