Carmen Avram: A Romanian  Pro-Israeli MEP in EU Parliament

Carmen Gabriela Avram is a Romanian journalist and politician. She has been a MEP on behalf of the Social Democratic Party since May 2019. She is the vice chair of Transatlantic Friends of Israel (TFI). Moreover, she is a European parliament Delegate for relations with Israel. Further, she is a full member of the Party of European Socialists. Carmen Avram is also a member of the Progressive Alliance of Socialists of Democrats. Additionally, She has worked for the Romanian broadcasters ProTV and Antena 3.

She often defends Israel in Parliament. She stated, “Like any other state, Israel warrants scrutiny and sometimes criticism. However, the problem is that it is not treated like any other state. This discrimination must end.”

On her Twitter handle, she mostly retweets those accounts that are anti-Hamas and criticises those who protest for Palestinians

Once, in an EU session, she praised Israel In 2019, “I would also like to remind this chamber and the people who are following our discussion that Israel is the only democracy in the Middle East, and perhaps we should put out more of our energy into persuading all countries in the area also to follow the path of a real democracy.” Further, she said, “Many things will be easier to solve in the Middle East, including peace. Regarding the settlement issues, I think this should be part of the framework of talks between Israel and the Palestinian Authority. Sanctioning only one side has never been a good thing for promoting peace.”

Moreover, she considered Israel an ally, a friend and a significant trade partner. Also, when it comes to safety innovation, agriculture, combating terrorism or even fighting climate change, She believes Israel has so much to give Europe.

Owing to the Oct 7 Attack of Hamas on Israel, she stated, “As this unprecedented attack is still unfolding and Israel prepares for what could be a lengthy war, now as ever is the time for moral clarity. Europe must condemn Hamas and Islamic Jihad – Iran-funded terrorist organisations dedicated to the destruction of Israel. Hamas and Islamic Jihad commit the double war crime of murdering Israeli civilians while using their populations as human shields. In this age of disinformation, misinformation, and propaganda, EU leaders must proclaim this basic truth loudly.”

Based on her political activities and developments stated above, she seems to be pro-Israeli MEP and actively defends their interest in the EU.
