Robby Schlund: The Pro-Russia Agenda of AfD’s Parliamentary Influencer

Robby Schlund is a German politician from the Alternative for Germany (AfD) party and from 2017 to 2021 member of the Bundestag, the federal legislative body. Since 2018 Robby Schlund has been a component of the Sub-Committee on Disarmament, Arms Control and Non-Proliferation and an assistant spokesman for the AfD in the Committee on Health. He always called for the lifting of the “anti-Russian” sanctions as well as many other AfD party members. 2016 he established the think tank “Dialogue of Civilizations Research Institute”.

He outlines himself as a member of the right-wing factional cluster ‘Der Flügel’ (the wing) near Björn Höcke Under the chairmanship of Robby Schlund, for the first time in years, a German-Russian parliamentary body in 2019 was making efforts to specify better contacts from Germany with Russia.

Schlund is a member of the Russian “Great Brotherhood of Cossack Hosts” organization and is believed to be the ataman of the Bera stands by it. Both he and Waldemar Herdt have links to Amram Petrosyan, an associate of the Russian FSB, who assumes Schlund to be his “dear friend”. He and Herdt also have Russian-language pages on VKontakte and Odnoklassniki.

Recently, leaked documents of politician Alexander Babakow delivered new evidence of how Russia is deliberately infiltrating Western democracies. The data show how early Moscow began to influence politicians in Europe. AfD members of the Bundestag were also apparently happy to be courted. Almost 1,000 guests were invited to the conference in Moscow, and around 170 of them were to arrive at the venue in BMW limousines.

AfD politician Robby Schlund was also present at the conference in the summer of 2019 and was one of those for whom this comfort was intended at the expense of the Russian hosts – according to a list of participants at the conference. The former AfD politician Robby Schlund has attracted attention several times because of his proximity to Russia.

In June 2019, while still an AfD MP, he traveled to Moscow and the Kaluga province with the German-Russian parliamentary group, it was reported that he and seven other MPs were there for five days to cultivate diplomatic relations with Russia. The fact that he would fly to Russia again a few days later was not known until now: According to the table, he is travelling to Moscow on Aeroflot flight number SU2317 at four in the morning on 30 June.

The documents show that the Russian Duma financed at least part of the costs for the conference. Schlund was chairman of the German-Russian parliamentary group in the Bundestag at the time and was therefore apparently a particularly valued guest for the Russians.
